SPEAKING IN TONGUES by 1nemind

At one point, I lived above someone who belonged to the Pentecostal Church, and heard that they spoke in tongues. I had seen, on television, in a news segment, just what it entailed, which to me sounded like a lot of gibberish. This was in the 70's when I lived in Tennessee.

Then in 1989/1990 I went to Bible Studies at the Sacred Heart Church, here in Niagara Falls,NY. It was my first experience with a Roman Catholic Bible Study. A very salient point of the evening, BEFORE the study began, was the passing around of the basket which later sat at the entrance for late-comers, in which one was to "donate" money for the priest conducting the study. I found this ridiculous, and offensive! By then, I had been to many Bible Studies, and never had I had a basket put before me in which I was compelled/shamed into giving something!

What wasn't my surprise when it was that at the "prayer request time" here came a few "gifted" ones (by then the priest was gone!), to pray over those who requested prayers. And now the room was filled with incredible noise, not a "word" of it discernible!

Well, I was well in my "infancy" regarding my journey as a Christian! Never before had I heard such, personally! This is what was called the "Charismatic Movement in the Catholic Church," at its very inception!

The "studies" themselves left a lot to be desired. There was no sequence to them, verses here and there being plucked out of the bible! The enjoyable part was the singing, but, again, the priest did not stick around for this! Once he gave his spiel and collected his "due," he was gone!

Well, so was I after a handful of visits!
I got nothing but bewilderment from this experience!

As I "grew" in learning from the word of God, I came to realize the uselessness for "speaking in tongues!" Finally, I have just run into videos that so very well express what this "phenomenon" truly is!

I pray you will enjoy learning the truth, so very succinctly explained by a very wise and learned New Born-Again Christian! It is AWESOME how God chooses His people!! This young man to certainly be one CHOSEN by God!
