What about prophets today?

This was posted back on October 19, 2010, and because a very good Berean asked about the Seventh Day Adventist Church, I feel I can do no better than Bryan Denlinger's response! So here it is:

Oh! What a blessing of incomparable proportion it is to have the beautiful circle of true brothers and sisters in Christ that I have on YouTube!

I had written my dear brother Bryan regarding a question posed to me by a dear new King James Believer who lives in Kerala, India, to whom Dave (BereanBeacon) arranged to get a King James Bible, that I did not feel qualified to answer, and here, as promptly as usual, is his reply!

Here is the original query:

Hi dear sister helga,

As i told u, i am busy with my studies .
I hope that my huge exam finishes soon so that i will have time to
speak with u about our lord.

I asked to D. [name omitted] that,
“ was there prophets after the birth of our lord Jesus Christ”..??

And he told me that,
” in bible it says that there will be prophets during last days...
As we know from bible, at the end times a lot many false prophets will come but
true prophets(though very few) also will be there at that time."

He send me a text file which contains the bible quoting which supports
the presence of prophets (from new testament).
He told me to share his humble work with you too, sis..
I have send it to you along with this mail..

Please do read it when u have time and kindly replay me, about your
comments on it..

(sis, my pal D. believes that Ellen G white(of 18th century) is a
true prophet, he told me that all her prophecies up to now, turned out
to be true.. she also prophesied about Sunday law and D. says
that within a decade it will also come true in the whole world)

Sister sometimes he might be wrong, he is also young like me...
We both are just pure green horns and pewees , but we do want to know
the truth.
So please do tell your valuable comments on it...

We are truly blessed to have you sister ..

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it
shall be opened unto you- Matthew 7:7

With love, respect and prayers
Your brother in Christ,
J.

I responded by writing Bryan Denlinger (http://www.youtube.com/user/husky394xp):

Dear brother Bryan,

This young man, J...., is from India, and a brand new believer in the King James Bible.

I do not feel qualified to respond to this his inquiry, which I pray, and would be very thankful, if you might help answer.

May God bless you.

Love in Christ,

Helga

...and here is Bryan's invaluable response, just gotten:

Hi Sister Helga,

It's good to hear from you again! I will send my response to this young man from India, to you and you can forward it to him. He might not recognize my email address, and he might delete my message by mistake. Also, you can use my answer to him for anyone in the future who raises these same questions.

Here we go;

[all Bible references given at the end, in the order of mention]

What about prophets today?

Many people make the mistake of thinking that everything in the New Testament was meant to be permanent. This is NOT true. You must remember that the Bible was not completed until the end of the first century, so many early believers did not have access to the book of Revelation. They did not know what the future held. We DO know today however! (1 Peter 2:19-21)

Immediately following the resurrection, Jesus told His disciples that they were going to be given "sign gifts" to confirm the word of God. (Mark 16:17-20) This happened first on the Jewish feast day of Pentecost in Acts chapter 2. 1 Corinthians 1:22 explains that the Jews REQUIRE a sign, and the Gentiles seek after "wisdom". The gospel was first preached to the Jews, so the sign gifts of healing, speaking in tongues, and prophesying were being performed by the early Christians.

When Paul showed up, he began preaching to the Jews. But the Lord eventually revealed our present gospel to Paul (Ephesians 3:1-8). As time went by, the Jews rejected Jesus Christ more and more until Paul said that he would preach exclusively to the Gentiles. (Acts 18:5-6) At this point, you can see the sign gifts starting to disappear. By the time Paul is writing to the young preacher Timothy, he is telling him that he couldn't heal a man named "Trophimus". (2 Timothy 4:20)

So the sign gift of a prophet went away for two reasons. First, it was originally given to convert the Jews (who required signs to confirm the word). Secondly, after the Bible was completed, Christians are now able to know the future. In THAT sense we can still prophecy to people, by telling them what God's word says about the future. But when someone today comes out and claims to be a "prophet" you had better watch out, and check EVERYTHING that they say with the King James Bible!!

Which brings me to the subject of Ellen G. White. Without going into a very long discussion on her teachings, I will say quickly that she was VERY wrong on a number of points! Her big claim to fame is that Christians are to worship on Saturday instead of Sunday. She equated Sunday worship with taking the mark of the beast in Revelation 13. BUT, what does the Bible say concerning "keeping the Sabbath" as a New Testament Christian?

Why don't Christians keep the Sabbath day? Simple. It was given to the Jews as a SIGN. (Read Ezekiel 20:19-20) 1 Corinthians 1:22 explains that the Jews REQUIRE a sign. After Jesus was risen from the grave, the Jewish apostles first preached to the Jews and confirmed "the word with signs following." (Mark 16:20)

The Jews rejected Jesus as a nation (some individual Jews were saved in the book of Acts, just as some are still saved today) and the gospel was taken to the Gentile people. (Acts 18:6) Paul becomes the "apostle of the Gentiles" (Romans 11:13) and gives the saved Jews and Gentiles, (who are now called "Christians") the commandments for us today. (See Romans 13:9) Keeping the Sabbath day is never mentioned by Paul!

There are also three places where the early Christians were meeting on the "first day of the week", which would be Sunday. See John 20:19, Acts 20:7, and 1 Corinthians 16:1-2. Also if you read Romans 14:5, you will see that we are not to make a big deal over what day we worship on. Christians living in Communist or Islamic countries, cannot meet on the same day every week!

So there is NO basis in scripture for Ellen G. White's claims. She is a liar! But it gets even worse than that! The Jewish calender has 360 days as opposed to our 365 days. So when a Seventh Day Adventist (Ellen G. White's followers) worships every week on Saturday, they aren't even keeping the Biblical "Sabbath" day!!! They are basing their "Sabbath days" on our pagan calender, NOT on the true Jewish days, which sometimes fall on our Mondays, Tuesdays, or Wednesdays!

Don't be deceived by the false prophet Ellen G. White. (Also read 1 Timothy 2:11-12) If any system of "Christianity" has a man or a woman's name attached to it, you don't want to be part of it! (CALVINism, LUTHERan, MENNOnite, etc.) The King James Bible ALONE is to be your FINAL AUTHORITY in ALL matters of faith and practice!

In Christ,
Bryan Denlinger

NOTE: A few days later, my dear brother Jithin (he had noticed I mentioned not having asked his permission to print his name, and said he had no problems with my doing so) had more to ask our brother Bryan. Both, query and response have I posted in
What about prophets today? (continuation...)

1 Peter 2:19-21 (King James Bible)

19For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully.

20For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God.

21For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

Mark 16:17-20 (King James Bible)

17And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;

18They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

19So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.

20And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Acts 2 (King James Bible)

1And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.

2And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.

3And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.

4And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

7And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?

8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

9Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

10Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

11Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

12And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

13Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

14But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

15For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

16But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:

21And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

22Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

23Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

24Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

25For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

26Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:

27Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

28Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

29Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

30Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

31He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

32This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

33Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

34For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

35Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

36Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made the same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

37Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

38Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

39For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the LORD our God shall call.

40And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.

41Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.

42And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.

43And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.

44And all that believed were together, and had all things common;

45And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

46And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,

47Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

1 Corinthians 1:22 (King James Bible)

22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

Ephesians 3:1-8 (King James Bible)

1For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

2If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

3How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

4Whereby, when ye read, ye may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)

5Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

6That the Gentiles should be fellowheirs, and of the same body, and partakers of his promise in Christ by the gospel:

7Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power.

8Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ;

Acts 18:5-6 (King James Bible)

5And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.

6And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

2 Timothy 4:20 (King James Bible)

20Erastus abode at Corinth: but Trophimus have I left at Miletum sick.

Revelation 13 (King James Bible)

1And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

2And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

3And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.

4And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

5And there was given unto him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and power was given unto him to continue forty and two months.

6And he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme his name, and his tabernacle, and them that dwell in heaven.

7And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

8And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

9If any man have an ear, let him hear.

10He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity: he that killeth with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints.

11And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

12And he exerciseth all the power of the first beast before him, and causeth the earth and them which dwell therein to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed.

13And he doeth great wonders, so that he maketh fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men,

14And deceiveth them that dwell on the earth by the means of those miracles which he had power to do in the sight of the beast; saying to them that dwell on the earth, that they should make an image to the beast, which had the wound by a sword, and did live.

15And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.

16And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads:

17And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six.

Ezekiel 20:19-20 (King James Bible)

19I am the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them;

20And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I am the LORD your God.

1 Corinthians 1:22 (King James Bible)
22For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

Mark 16:20 (King James Bible)

20And they went forth, and preached every where, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Acts 18:6 (King James Bible)

6And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean; from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.

Romans 11:13 (King James Bible)

13For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

Romans 13:9 (King James Bible)

9For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.
