Dirk and Petra Wunderlich have four children ranging in age from 7 to
14. As parents, they have been homeschooling their kids for the past
couple of years because they don’t want them indoctrinated with the
government propaganda.
This Thursday at 8 a.m., their kids had just begun their lessons for the
day when their house was stormed by 20 armed police, special government
agents and social workers. The children were captured and taken away.
Dirk and Petra were told that they would not be seeing their children
anytime soon.
The only charge made against the parents was that they defied federal
law that required all kids to attend government run public schools. In
fact, the government felt so strongly about what the Wunderlich family
was doing that a judge signed the order to forcibly take the children
and if necessary to use force against the kids if they resisted.
The Wunderlich family lives in Darmstadt, Germany. When Hitler was in
control of the country he made a law that required all children to
attend the government run public schools. That law has never been
repealed and the German government is starting to enforce it force if
necessary.
The Homes School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) is a worldwide
organization who had been working with the Wunderlich family and their
homeschooling needs. After the incident on Thursday, HSLDA contacted
the parents and reported:
“Citing the parents’ failure to cooperate ‘with the authorities to
send the children to school,’ the judge also authorized the use of force
‘against the children’ … reasoning that such force might be required
because the children had ‘adopted the parents’ opinions’ regarding
homeschooling and that ‘no cooperation could be expected’ from either
the parents or the children.”
Dirk told HSLDA:
“I looked through a side window and saw many people, police and
special agents, all armed. They told me they wanted to come in to speak
with me. I tried to ask questions, but within seconds, three police
officers brought a battering ram and were about to break the door in, so
I opened it.”
“The police shoved me into a chair and wouldn’t let me even make a
phone call at first. It was chaotic as they told me they had an order to
take the children. At my slightest movement the agents would grab me,
as if I were a terrorist. You would never expect anything like this to
happen in our calm, peaceful village. It was like a scene out of a
science fiction movie. Our neighbors and children have been traumatized
by this invasion.”
Michael Farris, Founder of HSLDA explained how the German government is
wrong, saying:
“The right to homeschool is a human right, and so is the right to
freely move and to leave a country. Germany has grossly violated these
rights of this family.”
“This latest act of seizing these four beautiful innocent children
is an outrageous act of a rogue nation.”
“Germany is a party to numerous human rights treaties that recognize
the right of parents to provide an education distinct from the public
schools so that children can be educated according to the parents’
religious convictions.”
“Germany has simply not met its obligations under these treaties or
as a liberal democracy. HSLDA and I will do whatever we can to help this
family regain custody of their children and ensure that they are safe
from this persecution. This case demonstrates conclusively why the
Romeike asylum case is so important. Families in Germany need a safe
place where they can educate their children in peace.”
As Farris noted, this is why the Romeike family sought asylum in the US.
If you recall, an immigration judge granted them asylum in 2010, but
the Obama administration pushed to have the asylum overturned and the
family deported back to Germany. If that happens, they will face the
same thing that just happened to the Wunderlich family and their kids
will be forcibly taken from them and they’ll never know when they will
ever get to see them again. Oh yeah, don’t’ forget that Obama just let 1
million illegals stay in the country in defiance of federal immigration
laws, but he is fighting hard to send one Christian family back to
certain government persecution just because they want to homeschool.
If given the chance, I believe that Obama would abolish homeschooling in
the US as well and mandate that every child attend the government run
indoctrination centers known public schools. He cares nothing about
parental rights or the rights of Christians. All he cares about is his
own self and propagating his socialist agenda.
