FALSE MESSIAH DIES (Friday Church News Notes, September 7, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Sun Myung Moon, founder of the Unification Church cult, died on September 3 at age 92. Moon claimed that Jesus appeared to him in 1935 and commissioned him to establish the kingdom of God on earth. He founded the Unification Church in Korea in 1954 and moved to the United States in 1971. According to the strange Unification doctrine (the “Divine Principle”), Moon and his wife, “the Heavenly Parents,” were chosen to produce the kingdom of God on earth. (This was Moon’s second wife; he left his first wife in 1960.) Moon claimed that God said to him, “You are the son I have been seeking, the one who can begin my eternal history.” Supposedly, Adam and Eve failed to produce the kingdom because of their sin, and Jesus likewise failed to produce the kingdom of God because he was crucified before he could marry the perfect bride. Thus Moon was chosen to carry on the work. Moon blasphemously claimed that Jesus was born of an immoral relationship between Mary and the father of John the Baptist. Moon conducted mass weddings of interracial and even inter-religious couples, claiming that this is the path to world peace. In Oakland, California, he said to the women in attendance: “If you don’t give birth, you are disqualified as a woman” (“Rev. Moon Stirs Up Fans,” Oakland Tribune, March 13, 2001). In Oklahoma City that year, Moon proclaimed: “I have been to the spirit world. I have met God.” Upon his death, one of his followers said, “I feel like the sky is falling and the whole world has collapsed,” while another said, “You are the eternal king of kings, the messiah of mankind. You will always live in my heart.” (“Church readies huge funeral for ‘messiah,’” Bangkok Post, Sept. 4, 2012). Since 2008 Moon’s youngest son has been in charge of the cult’s religious and business empire.

IT’S WICKEDNESS AS USUAL FOR SOGGY NEW ORLEANS (Friday Church News Notes, September 7, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Seven years after the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans was hit a hard though lesser blow by Hurricane Isaac. Whereas Katrina hindered some of the city’s infamous debauchery, including the the cancellation of the 2005 gay pride “Southern Decadence” festival, the debauchery continued without a blush this year. The 2012 Decadence festival was hosted by the French Quarters a few days after the hurricane. “And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret. But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light” (Ephesians 5:11-13).

INFLUENTIAL CATHOLIC TEXTUAL CRITIC DIES (Friday Church News Notes, September 7, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Carlo Martini, one of the editors of the United Bible Societies Greek New Testament, died last week at age 85. Martini, a Jesuit priest and the Roman Catholic Archbishop Emeritus of Milan, was an editor of the UBS NT from 1967 until 2002. He was made a cardinal by Pope John Paul II in 1983. The other original editors of the UBS NT were Kurt Aland, Bruce Metzger, Matthew Black, and Allen Wikgren. I remember how shocked I was when I learned about the gross theological heresies of the men who edited the Greek New Testament that I had used in Bible School. We students were not given this information, though the school was supposed to be a “fundamentalist” one that believed in separation, but at the beginning of my personal research into the Bible version/text issue as a young missionary in the early 1980s I dug the information out by obtaining books written by Metzger and the other men. Eventually I built a large library on that subject and documented the apostasy “from the horse’s mouth.” My first book exposing this was Unholy Hands on God’s Holy Book: A Report on the United Bible Societies in 1985. The information in that book was reproduced widely both with and without proper credit. After 20 more years of research, I published The Modern Bible Version Hall of Shame in 2005, which exposes modern textual criticism’s affinity to and intimate association with end-time apostasy. This book contains documentation pertaining to more than 150 influential textual critics and translators. God has commanded that His people mark and avoid theological heretics (Romans 16:17) and turn away from end-time apostasy (2 Timothy 3:5). There is no biblical justification for using books and Greek Testaments produced by such men. “Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away” (2 Tim. 3:5).

WYCLIFFE BIBLE TRANSLATORS AND ROME (Friday Church News Notes, September 7, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - In our report “Wycliffe Bible Translators and Rome” we document Wycliffe’s longstanding association with the Roman Catholic Church. A recent example of this is from the August 26, 2012, prayer letter of Karl Grebe, Summer Institute of Linguistics missionary in Cameroon, wrote: “While some of the translators and I are focusing on finalizing the manuscript of the OT and NT books, others are helping two Catholic priests to finalize their translation of a number of Deutero-canonical Books (DC books), known by Protestants as Apocryphal Books. Seven of these books will be included in a Catholic edition of the Lamnso Bible. Upon request by the Catholic Church, the Bible Society of Cameroon, which will be the publisher of the Lamnso Bible, agreed to publish two editions, one for Protestants, containing only the canonical books, and one for Catholics, containing in addition a number of DC books. The translation of these books has been going on sporadically over a number of years but is now finally coming to a conclusion. So far I have checked only two of those books because I was giving priority to the canonical books. Our SIL administration is looking for another consultant to help with the remaining checking task so that the publication of the Lamnso Bible will not be unduly delayed.” Unlike its namesake, John Wycliffe, who stood boldly against Rome’s heresies, Wycliffe Bible Translators has been ecumenical and pro-Roman Catholic from its inception. The Lord Jesus Christ commanded His people to beware of false prophets (Matthew 7:15), and His apostles warned the brethren to mark and avoid those who preach false doctrine (Rom. 16:17) and to beware of those who promote false gospels, false christs, and false spirits (2 Cor. 11:1-4). Wycliffe Bible Translators operates in blatant disregard to the very Word of God it professes to revere.

GENETIC MUTATIONS DO NOT ADD UP TO EVOLUTION (Friday Church News Notes, September 7, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The release of radiation from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan in March 2011 has resulted in genetic mutations in butterflies. These have produced abnormalities such as infertility, aberrant spot patterns, deformed wings, dented eyes, malformed antennas and legs, and the inability to fight their way out of their cocoons (“Mutant Butterflies,” Fox News, Aug. 5, 2012). Timothy Mousseau, a professor of biology at the University of South Carolina who studied the impacts of radiation from Fukushima and Chernobyl, observes that one implication of the research into the mutations is that “harmful mutations can be passed from one generation to the next, and that these might actually accumulate and increase over time.” There is an even greater implication not mentioned in this report, and that is the refutation of the myth of evolution in that genetic mutations are either of little or no consequence (e.g., aberrant spot patterns) or they are destructive (e.g., deformed wings). The evolution of creatures is not even a theory; it is a fairy tale based on zero scientific evidence. The title to Darwin’s influential book was “On the Origin of Species,” but he failed to demonstrate any mechanism that could account either for the origin of life or the origin of species. Darwin proposed “natural selection,” but whatever natural selection is, it has no creative power. It has no power to add the mind-bogglingly complex genetic information and cellular machinery that lies behind the building of complex creatures. Since Darwin, evolutionists have proposed genetic mutation as the mechanism of creation, but there is no scientific evidence that genetic mutations can create complex limbs, organs, or creatures. Complicated things are not built by random, accidental events. Take a piece of writing, such as Genesis chapter one. It could never be created through random typing, and if accidental changes were introduced to the existing text, the result would invariably be degradation and not improvement. Take a machine such as the Space Shuttle. It has two million parts (and is far less complex than a bacterial cell). Random blind changes would never create such a machine nor improve an existing one. When I was a little kid, one of my uncles had a race car that he drove to a family gathering. My cousin and I found his tool kit and decided to add some random mutations to his race car by tinkering with things and removing stuff. I will guarantee you that we didn’t improve his race car! At a fundamental level, the evolution issue is not rocket science.

KNOWLEDGE SHALL INCREASE (Friday Church News Notes, September 7, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - About 2,500 years ago, during the Medo-Persian Empire, an angel told the prophet Daniel, “But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased” (Daniel 12:4). We are seeing a dramatic fulfillment of this in our day. Recent inventions include the following: (1) New face-recognition software system can sort through 36 million faces per second (“Video: Face-Recognition System,” Popular Science, Mar. 23, 2012). The Hitachi Kokusai system can monitor video feeds from around the world in real time, scanning for a particular face, and can track the individual if he appears in any supplied feed. (2) A person lying down in an fMRI machine has controlled a robot just by thinking (“Robot Avatar Body,” New Scientist, July 6, 2012). The goal is to give people the ability to interact with the world using a surrogate body. The person was in the Advanced Virtuality Lab at the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya, Israel, while the robot was in the Béziers Technology Institute in France. (3) Major companies are using eye-tracking technology to make heat maps of where consumers’ eyes go on a label or store shelf to fine tune their advertising displays (“Supermarkets Use Retina Trackers,” Popular Science, July 12, 2012). “Doing so allows market researchers into consumers’ heads in a way they never could before.”
(4) The world’s largest laser system unleashed an 1.85-megajoule blast that delivered more than 500 trillion watts of power (“World’’s Most Powerful Laser,” Fox News, July 12, 2012). The fraction-of-a-second blast, at the National Ignition Facility in Livermore, California, produced 1,000 times the energy used by the entire United States at any given instant. It created conditions that had previously only existed deep within the heart of a star. The scientists hope to reach a break-even point, where the energy released is equal to if not greater than the energy that went into the blast. (5) MIT has developed radar that can see through concrete walls (“Radar,” BBC Technology News, Oct. 19, 2011). With the radar, which uses short radio waves and amplifiers, it is possible to detect people behind a concrete wall from as far as 60 feet away. (6) The first swallowable electronic device has been approved by the FDA (“Approved,” Popular Science, July 31, 2012). The pill is powered by a sand-particle-sized silicon chip that generates voltage by contact with digestive juices. The pill signals a patch on the person’s skin, which relays a message to a mobile phone. (7) There are plans to build a 3D printer that can print houses in 20 hours (“3D Printer Could Build a House,” Yahoo News, Aug. 10, 2012). Speaking at the TEDxOjai conference, Behrokh Khoshnevis of the University of Southern California described plans to build a giant 3D printer that can “print” houses in just a few hours. A scale model has been built and tested. It is called Contour Crafting. (8) Disney has invented a process to clone human faces into silicone-skinned robots (“Disney Invents,” Gizmodo, Aug. 14, 2012). The process uses 3D motion capture cameras to calculate the precise shape, density and composition of the synthetic silicon skin. The cloned face is driven by an underlying robotic actuation machine.

BEWARE OF SIN THAT BLINDS THE EYES (Friday Church News Notes, September 7, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - “That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness” (2 Thessalonians 2:12). “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light (John 3:19). This is a loud warning to young people growing up in Christian homes. It is love for unrighteousness that blinds men’s minds to the truth. Apostates who turn their ears away from the truth do so because they walk after their own lusts (2 Timothy 4:3-4). End-time scoffers are scoffers because they walk after their own lusts (2 Peter 3:3). This is what happened to me as a young person growing up in a Baptist church. I heard the truth and knew the truth from my earliest memories and I had no intention to disown Christ or to doubt the Bible, but I did not receive the truth into my heart and I did not embrace the truth in repentance and saving faith and I did not have a personal walk with Christ. Instead I loved the world and the things of the world and that idolatrous love of sin blinded my mind to the truth. Eventually I became so blind that I rejected the Bible as God’s Word, believed in reincarnation rather than resurrection, accepted universalism rather than salvation, and ultimately joined a Hindu society. Taking an apologetics course like An Unshakeable Faith will not protect you if you do not separate from evil and guard your heart from meditating upon those things that displease the Lord. “Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life. Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil men. Avoid it, pass not by it, turn from it, and pass away” (Proverbs 4:13-14).

TESTIMONY ABOUT “SOWING AND REAPING” (Friday Church News Notes, September 7, 2012, www.wayoflife.org, fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - “I have purchased ‘Sowing and Reaping: A Course in Evangelism’ for new Bible studies I am running. They are excellent and a tremendous help for soul winning and teaching the true gospel of Christ. Outstanding material and highly recommended for everyone; we all need to understand the gospel better! It is always applicable and enables everyone to hear and understand true Biblical salvation. The book has an excellent layout, content, verse selection, and questions. We use it over and over. Thank you so much!”

CONCLUSION: The Friday Church News Notes is designed for use in churches and is published by Way of Life Literature’s Fundamental Baptist Information Service. Unless otherwise stated, the Notes are written by David Cloud. Of necessity we quote from a wide variety of sources, but this obviously does not imply an endorsement. We trust that our readers will not be discouraged. It is God’s will that we know the times (1 Ch. 12:32; Mat. 16:3) and that we be as wise as serpents and harmless as doves. The News Notes remind us that the hour is very late, and we need to be ready for the Lord’s coming. Are you sure that you are born again? Are you living for Christ? “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof” (Rom. 13:11-14). HERESIES PERTAINING TO JOHN'S FIRST EPISTLE by David Cloud

.
HERESIES PERTAINING TO JOHN'S FIRST EPISTLE
JULY 10, 2012

(David Cloud, Fundamental Baptist Information Service, P.O. Box 610368, Port Huron, MI 48061, 866-295-4143, fbns@wayoflife.org)

In recent months I have become aware of some heresies pertaining to John’s first epistle that are spreading among fundamental Baptist churches.

Though there are difficulties in 1 John, these can be resolved by applying sound principles of Bible interpretation. The first two of these are to interpret Scripture according to context and to compare Scripture with Scripture.

Applying these principles we find that there are two “keys” to the proper understanding of John’s first Epistle.

First, the epistle was WRITTEN TO BELIEVERS that their fellowship with God might be perfected and their joy might be full.

“That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full” (1 John 1:3-4).

“These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God” (1 John 5:13).

The word “fellowship” is used four times in 1 John 1:3-7.

The epistle is clearly and definitely not written to unbelievers. It is not about how to be saved; it is about how to stay in fellowship with God after you are saved.

There is a heresy that 1 John 1:9 is for the unbeliever and that the believer cannot be out of fellowship with God.

This is taught, for example, by Guided By Truth Ministries, as follows.

“For the believer, verbally ‘confessing’ our sins through prayer does not cause us to be forgiven. We may ask God to forgive us but He has told us through His word that He already has. We can certainly thank Him for forgiving our sin, but to keep asking for it means we are ignoring Him and His Word. He teaches us to rest in forgiveness, not keep seeking it. ... With this truth in mind, we must ask, what does 1 John 1:9 actually mean? Can we actually break fellowship with God and not be in His good graces if we have un-confessed sin? ... Those who admit their sin will be saved. Those who already have are already forgiven. There is no teaching here to the contrary. This passage is referring to the one time event that happens to those who are saved. It is not teaching how a Christian should receive forgiveness but rather how those who admitted they had sin became Christians. ... Knowing that it is impossible to be in darkness after accepting the light of the world we can further understand that in 1 John 1:6, 8, & 10 John is speaking of those who have never accepted Christ. ... GOD NEVER DECLARES A ‘BREAK IN FELLOWSHIP’ WITH US. This concept is not found in Scripture. ... The Bible tells us that we will still sin, but when we accept Christ as our Savior, we are referred to as saints. He has forgiven all of our sins. There is no need for us to keep dwelling on our sin. He took them away to be remembered no more. This confession idea is out of sync with the truth of Salvation and only keeps our mind on sin rather than on the forgiveness already imputed to us” (“Forgiveness and 1 John 1:9,” Guided By Truth Ministries, n.d.).

This heresy is also taught by Steve McVey in 52 Lies Heard in Church Every Sunday.

“Don’t get bogged down in a faulty understanding of 1 John 1:9 when the rest of the New Testament teaches that our sins have been absolutely forgiven--past, present, and future. ... The idea that we’re out of fellowship with God when we do wrong is a lie. It’s one of those cliches. It sounds good, but it’s not biblical. THERE IS NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO PUT YOURSELF OUT OF FELLOWSHIP WITH GOD. ... You are in fellowship with God all the time” (McVey, 52 Lies, pp. 72, 73, 75).

This heresy forces a meaning upon John’s words in his first epistle that is unnatural. He plainly is talking about “fellowship” in 1 John 1, using the term four times. This heresy flies in the face of the Bible's own words.

The author of the previous statements err in failing to make a clear distinction between relationship and fellowship. That is really the heart of the matter, and the issue is that simple.

Relationship and fellowship, standing and state, position and practice are plainly taught doctrines of the Christian life and are emphasized in the New Testament epistles and a proper understanding of these things is essential for stability and fruitfulness in the Christian life.

Paul says we have been cleansed of our sins (1 Cor. 6:11; Col. 2:13), which refers to the believer’s eternal position in Christ; whereas John says we are cleansed from our sin as we walk in the light (1 John 1:7), referring to daily fellowship with the Father.

Paul says in one place that we have put off the old man and put on the new man (Colossians 3:9-10), referring to the believer’s unchanging position in Christ, but he says in another place that we are to put off the old man and put on the new man as a daily way of life (Ephesians 4:22-24), referring to one’s practice and fellowship.

The difference between relationship and fellowship is brought out clearly in Ephesians. The first three chapters describe the believer’s position in Christ, while the last three describe his practice in this world. Positionally, the “old man” is dead in Christ and we are already seated in the heavenlies with Him, but as a matter of practice we are to put off the old man and put on the new (Eph. 4:22-24). This pertains to fellowship.

The two aspects of sanctification (relationship and fellowship) are seen in Ephesians 5:8 -- now that we ARE light, positionally and relationally, let's live like it day by day, practically and as a matter of fellowship.

We are children of God by faith in Christ the moment we are born again, but that doesn't mean that He is pleased with everything we do in this present life and that does not mean that I am in fellowship with Him no matter how I act. It is the same thing in a human father-child relationship, though on a far less perfect basis. Growing up, when I disobeyed my father, I was still his son but I wasn't pleasing to Him and we didn't have proper fellowship. That could only be restored by my actions toward him.

John says there are two things that keep us in fellowship with the Father, walking in the light (obedience) and confession of sins. God isn't "mad" at His children in any frail human sense when we sin, but He can definitely be displeased and the onus is on us to stay in sweet fellowship by honoring and obeying Him and acknowledging our sins before Him rather than hiding them and excusing them.

The idea that there is nothing to do to get out of God's fellowship makes no sense in light of the New Testament's many warnings.

Why does God chasten His children if they can't get out of fellowship (Heb. 12)?
How could there be a sin unto death if we can't get out of fellowship (1 Cor. 11:27-32; 1 John 5:16-17)?
If it is not possible to be out of fellowship through sin why did Paul fear becoming a castaway for not keeping his body under subjection (1 Cor. 9:27)?
If it is not possible to get out of fellowship, why does Paul warn about loss at the judgment seat of Christ (1 Cor. 3)?

These questions could be multiplied.

Second, the epistle of 1 John was written to protect believers from false teachers.

“These things have I written to you concerning them that seduce you” (1 John 2:26).

The things that John writes about pertaining to not hating the brethren (1 John 2:9, 11; 3:15; 4:20) and pertaining to the obedience that characterizes true brethren (1 John 2:3-4) are geared to refuting the false teaching that was spreading in that day.

The false teachers separated themselves from the true apostles and preachers (1 John 2:19). They denied the Christhood and Sonship of Jesus (1 John 4:2, 15). They were of the world (1 John 4:5). They did not love the true brethren (1 John 4:7-8) but rather hated the brethren (1 John 3:15). Diotrephes in 3 John is an example. They denied the propitiation of Christ (1 John 4:10). They lived in unrighteousness (1 John 3:7-8).

These false teachers are further described in Jude. They turned the grace of God into lasciviousness (Jude 4, 7, 16, 18). They denied Jesus (Jude 4), such as denying His divinity, and denying His humanity, and denying that Jesus was the same as Christ, etc. They despised dominion (Jude 8). They followed a works religion (Jude 11). They were covetousness (Jude 11). They assumed positions of spiritual authority to which God had not called them (Jude 11). They honored man rather than God (Jude 16).

This spirit of error and apostasy eventually grew until it became the Roman Catholic Church, with its doctrine of infant baptism and baptismal regeneration, whereby unregenerate people are proclaimed Christians even though their is no change and no regenerating power in their lives, and whereby the true brethren were so hated that they were “excommunicated” and imprisoned, persecuted and killed.

EVANGELICAL LEADERS SIGN STATEMENT PROCLAIMING GOD OF ISLAM AND GOD OF BIBLE AS “ONE GOD”, CHRISTIANITY TODAY FACING TWO WAYS ON ADAM, U.N. PASSES “HISTORIC” HOMOSEXUAL RIGHTS RESOLUTION, and more...

.
I found reading this to be so very distressing, I could not even post it last Friday!

Anyway, as I had stated in my post It was just a matter of time: CHRISLAM has arrived!
It has, and it is here to stay! May God have mercy on us! Such utter disrespect He will not tolerate!

13Enter ye in at the strait gate:
for wide is the gate, and broad is the way,
that leadeth to destruction,
and many there be which go in thereat:
14Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way,
which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.
Matthew 7:13-14 (King James Bible)

CHRISTIANITY TODAY FACING TWO WAYS ON ADAM (Friday Church News Notes, June 24, 2011, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Hindu gods can face in multiple directions at once; they can be male and female; good and bad. This reminds me of Christianity Today’s approach to doctrine. It is pure emerging church: syncretistic, uncertain, despising dogmatism. CT was founded by Billy Graham in 1956 as the flagship publication of New Evangelical thought, and its rapid apostasy is a loud warning to those fundamentalists who are enticed today by “conservative evangelicalism.” Christianity Today was very conservative in its early years. The thing that destroyed the magazine’s spiritual discernment was the renunciation of separatism and the subsequent evil associations. “Be not deceived: evil communications corrupt good manners” (1. Cor. 15:33). Now CT thinks it is possible to believe in the Bible while disbelieving what the Bible teaches about Adam. The June 2011 report entitled “The Search for the Historical Adam” is a shameless apologetic for “theistic evolution,” which is a cheap sellout to Darwinism. In particular, CT enthuses over geneticist John Collins, “one of the most eminent scientists ever to identify as an evangelical Christianity,” who “staunchly defends Darwinian evolution even as he insists on God as the Creator.” Predictably, CT also cites that evangelical superhero C.S. Lewis as an authority for rejecting the biblical Adam. Lewis ridiculously believed that man arose from the “animal form” and at some point God smote the evolving animal with human consciousness. For the sake of dialogue, CT also briefly cites the “conservative” view that “If Adam doesn’t exist, Paul’s whole argument [in Romans 5] falls apart.” Indeed, this isn’t just a “conservative” view, it is the only view that is taught in Scripture: by Moses (Gen. 2:19-23; 3:8, 9, 17, 20, 21; 4:1, 25; 5:1-5; Deut. 32:8), by Chronicles (1 Chron. 1:1), by Job (31:33), by Luke (Lk. 3:38), by Paul (Rom. 5:14; 1 Cor. 15:22, 45; 1 Tim. 2:13, 14), and by Jude (Jude 14). If Adam was not a real man, the Bible’s Messianic genealogy is nonsense and the gospel is a fairy tale. “And Jesus himself began to be about thirty years of age, being (as was supposed) the son of Joseph, which was the son of Heli ... which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God” (Luke 3:23, 38). If Adam was not a real man, then who or what died when Adam died (Genesis 5:5)?

EVANGELICAL LEADERS SIGN STATEMENT PROCLAIMING GOD OF ISLAM AND GOD OF BIBLE AS “ONE GOD” (Friday Church News Notes, June 24, 2011, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - At a time when “evangelical conservative” John Piper has joined hands with Rick Warren in ministry and has proclaimed him theologically sound, we would remind our readers that Warren signed “A Christian Response to ‘A Common Word Between Us and You’” in November 2007. This document says that Muslims and Christians worship the same God and claims that “the future of the world depends on peace between Muslims and Christians.” The statement says, “... we must engage in interfaith dialogue as those who seek each other’s good, for the one God unceasingly seeks our good” (http://www.yale.edu/faith/acw/acw.htm). It was signed by the two major evangelical church growth gurus in America, Rick Warren and Bill Hybels. In this act they joined hands with hundreds of other signatories, including Roman Catholics (e.g., “Father” Joseph Daoust, President of the Jesuit School of Theology Berkeley) and prominent theological modernists and emergents (e.g. Harvey Cox and Elizabeth Fiorenza of Harvard Divinity School, Tony Jones of Emergent Village, and Brian McLaren), and self-esteem guru Robert Schuller. Other “evangelicals” who signed this unscriptural document were Leith Anderson (President of the National Association of Evangelicals), Robert Cooley (President Emeritus, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary), Mike Edens (Associate Dean of Graduate Studies, New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary), Timothy George (Beeson Divinity School at Samford University), Lynn Green (International Chairman of Youth With A Mission), Peter Kuzmic (Gordon-Conwell), David Neff (Editor in Chief Christianity Today), Roy Oksnevad (Institute of Strategic Evangelism at Wheaton College), Richard Mouw (President of Fuller Theological Seminary), Doug Pennoyer (Dean of the School of Intercultural Studies, Biola University), John Stott (Rector Emeritus of All Souls Church London), Michael Treneer (International President of The Navigators), Berten Waggoner (National Director of the Vineyard Churches), David Yonggi Cho (senior pastor Yoido Full Gospel Church Seoul), and Bruce Clemenger (President of The Evangelical Fellowship of Canada).

U.N. PASSES “HISTORIC” HOMOSEXUAL RIGHTS RESOLUTION (Friday Church News Notes, June 24, 2011, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - At the instigation of Hillary Clinton and the U.S. State Department, the United Nations Human Rights Council passed a resolution supporting “equal rights for all, regardless of sexual orientation” (“U.N.,” CNN, June 17, 2011). Secretary of state Hillary Clinton “has made gay rights a key focus of the State Department’s human rights agenda, expressing her view that ‘gay rights are human rights and human rights are gay rights.’”  She is therefore a fitting handmaiden to President Obama and his vision to acclaim and empower moral perversion. Suzanne Nossell, spokeswoman for the State Department, said that “this is really a critical beginning of a universal recognition of a new set of rights that forms part of the international system.” The United Nations is an antichrist institution that is at the forefront of building a one-world government and one-world religion, and it is a fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Jesus likened the end-times to the days of Sodom and Gomorrah (Luke 17:26-30). John prophesied that the end-times Babylon will be “the hold of every foul spirit” (Rev. 18:2). We are witnessing the fulfillment of Psalm 2 as the world unites “against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us” (verses 1-3). This refers to the wholesale rejection of God’s holy laws and the spread of moral relativism.
HOLLYWOOD ACTRESS CALLS MARRIAGE A DYING INSTITUTION (Friday Church News Notes, June 24, 2011, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Actress Cameron Diaz has joined a long line of Hollywood elites who hate the institution of marriage. She calls it a “dying institution” and says that “we have to make our own rules” (“Is Marriage a ‘Dying’ Institution?” Associated Baptist Press, June 17, 2011). Not to be outdone, Fox News “expert” Keith Ablow said that “marriage is a source of real suffering for the vast majority of married people.” Fox News is more politically “conservative” than outfits like CNN or USA Today, but it is as much a handmaiden of the filthy pop culture and the philosophy of moral relativism as any of them. Surveys tell us that Diaz is right about marriage being a dying institution. A new Gallup Poll found that 60% of Americans believe it is morally acceptable for an unmarried man and woman to have sex, and multitudes are flaunting holy matrimony. Whereas only 5% of children were born out of wedlock 50 years ago, that figure has risen to 41% today. The entertainment industry has a big responsibility for these frightful statistics. Marriage has been under assault in modern times since the onslaught of rock & roll in the 1950s. Elvis believed in marriage, but he didn’t believe in holy marriage. As for Ablow’s claim that marriage is a source of suffering for the “vast majority” of married people, I have never seen evidence of that. In the 61 years I have lived on this earth, I have personally observed marriage to be a great blessing to countless people. And if it is so terrible, why do the majority of people still practice it? Why do even divorced people typically return to the altar for a second dose of this alleged most miserable of contracts? The bottom line is that marriage is God’s law and it is perfectly fitting to satisfy the deepest human needs at both an individual, family, and societal level, and that is why it has endured 6,000 years of Satanic-inspired assault. Only the Lord knows how many Hollywood actresses have in their old age wished they had paid more respect to holy matrimony.

BRITISH HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION HEAD SAYS “OLD TIME” CHRISTIANS INCOMPATIBLE WITH MODERN SOCIETY (Friday Church News Notes, June 24, 2011, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Trevor Phillips, Chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, says that “old time” Christians are a greater threat to modern society than Muslims. In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph, Phillips said that “an old time religion” is “in my view incompatible with a modern, multi-ethnic, multicultural society” (“Christians Are More Militant Than Muslims,” The Telegraph, June 19, 2011). He warned about “fundamentalist Christians who are holding increasing sway over the mainstream churches” and who allegedly want to pick a fight with the government and throw their weight around, particularly over the issue of homosexuality. On the other hand Phillips praised Muslims for working hard “to come to terms with their neighbours to try to integrate and they’re doing their best to try to develop an idea of Islam that is compatible with living in a modern liberal democracy.” This man is living in a never-never land. There are not many “fundamentalist” Christians in all of Britain, and they simply want to be left alone to practice their religious faith without persecution from an increasingly unsympathetic Big Brother. As for Muslims doing their best to integrate,  the fact is that many of the mosques are producing terrorists who have traveled far and wide to kill and maim and destroy. There are entire neighborhoods that are operated as Muslim enclaves and care far more about Islamic law than British law or humanistic political correctness.
POP GODS (Friday Church News Notes, June 24, 2011, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - The pop culture has captured the heart and soul of a vast number of people, from Tweens to Boomers, and it is a worldwide phenomenon. Pop musicians, actors, and athletes are modern gods and goddesses. Consider what they earned from their devotees last year. In the music field, U2 earned $195 million; Bon Jovi, $125 million; Elton John, $100 million; Lady Gaga, $90 million; Jay-Z and Beyonce (they are married), $72 million; Michael Bublé, $70 million; Paul McCartney, $66 million; Justin Bieber, $53 million. And we must not forget the sports gods. In spite of his breathtaking tumble from #1 ranking to #13 or beyond, golfer Tiger Woods was still the highest paid athlete, earning $75 million in the year ending May 2011. Basketball players Kobe Bryant and LeBron James were second and third, respectively, at $53 million and $48 million. The top 50 highest-paid athletes earned a combined $1.4 BILLION. Highest paid Hollywood movie stars include James Cameron ($257 million), Johnny Depp ($100 million), Leonardo DiCaprio ($62 million), Robert Downey, Jr. ($31.5 million), Will Smith ($28.5 million), and Jennifer Aniston ($24.5 million). The top 20 highest paid stars, directors, and producers earned a total of $1.04 BILLION.

CHURCH OF SWEDEN FILLED WITH ATHEISTS AND AGNOSTICS (Friday Church News Notes, June 24, 2011, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - According to a new survey, only 15 percent of the members of the Church of Sweden say they believe in Jesus, while 40% identify themselves as either atheist or agnostic (“Swedish Church Members Don’t Believe,” The Local, June 15, 2011). Jonas Bromander, the analyst responsible for the study, said, “It’s not really a problem.” Of the 6.6 million members of the Church of Sweden, only 400,000 attend services even once a month. Until 1996, church membership was automatic at birth for infants of parents who were members. The heresies of state churchism and infant baptism were drug out of the Roman Catholic Church by Protestants, and this is one reason why biblical Christianity is nearly dead across England and Europe. The stage is set for the appearance of the Antichrist. “Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8).

WESTBORO RIGHT ABOUT CALVINISM, WRONG ABOUT GOD (Friday Church News Notes, June 24, 2011, www.wayoflife.org fbns@wayoflife.org, 866-295-4143) - Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas, picketed Mars Hill Church in Seattle last Sunday to protest the gospel that “God loves everyone and Jesus died for the sins of all of mankind” (“Westboro to Picket at Mars Hills Megachurch,” Christian Post, June 17, 2011). Westboro’s web site says, “God does not love everyone--in fact, He hates the majority of mankind, and has purposed to send them to hell when they die.” Mars Hill’s senior pastor, Mark Driscoll, a Calvinist, replied, “Doctrinally, they are extreme five-point Calvinists, or what I like to call Crazy Calvinists. ... Therefore, they believe all mentions of God’s love in the Bible are in reference to God’s Christian elect and not applicable in any way to others outside God’s elect.” In my experience, most Calvinists like to think of themselves as part of the non-extreme or non-hyper element and there are indeed major and important differences between types of Calvinism, but sovereign election is the fundamental issue. If God has “sovereignly” decided who will be saved without reference to whether or not an individual believes in Christ and if He then sovereignly draws and saves the elect--if people believe simply because they are elect--then there is no possibility of salvation for the non-elect. Under this doctrinal system, one can say in theory that God still loves everyone, but in practice He has determined only to save some and the rest will surely perish, and there is not a thing an individual can do to change his predetermined destiny. As Dave Hunt so eloquently asks in his book by that title, “What love is this?” Westboro Baptist Church is a ridiculous little congregation composed largely of the family members of its pastor, Fred Phelps. They run around to photo ops preaching their message of God’s hatred toward mankind, but they are dead wrong about God, as John so wonderful stated: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16), and, “He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love” (1 John 4:8). Jesus commanded us to preach the Gospel to every creature, and Westboro’s message is no Gospel (Good News) at all. So they are dead wrong about God. But it appears to me that they are right about Calvinism. If sovereign election is true as Calvinism defines it, then it looks for all practical purposes that God does indeed hate the non-elect. This is not because God actually does hate the non-elect; it is because the Calvinist system of theology is misguided and has gone off the rails in its attempt to systematize things that can’t be systematized and to understand things that can’t be understood this side of eternity. I once asked a prominent Calvinist, a man I consider a friend and for whom I have great respect, the following simply question: “Do you believe that anyone can be saved today?” He refused to give a straight answer to this question, because he thinks of himself as a “non-hyper” Calvinist who believes that God loves all men. In my mind, and according to my understanding of Scripture, nothing is more clear than the teaching that anyone can be saved who hears and believes the gospel, and anyone CAN believe the gospel, not just the elect. Thus, if I cannot respond with an unequivocal “Yes” to the aforementioned question, then something is wrong with my theology.
