Is it possible that Independent Fundamental Baptists have elevated unscriptural traditions ABOVE the King James Bible?

YES!!!

It began with water baptism, for which I was unceremoniously UNfriended by some "devout" Baptists on Facebook, who first attempted to show me the error of my ways, of course! Now, it seems, I am after the Baptists, for I am appalled that they parrot that man is saved by faith alone, nevertheless, water baptism IS A MUST! 

NO IT IS NOT!  I am still listening to this series, and am hoping that Bryan Denlinger touches on this. Even if he does not, such is NOT scriptural. Water baptism was preached by Jesus and the apostles DURING HIS LIFETIME, and was meant for the Jews, the purpose for which Christ came to earth.

It was ONLY after his death, burial and resurrection that Christ sought to give Paul the gospel of grace, to us ward!

Ex-Indiana megachurch pastor seeks minimum sentence

On occasion, and yet, frequently enough, we read or hear of things done by criminals that leave us with our jaws hanging wide open! But then, this fool did it also when he claimed he did not know it to be against the law to take a 16-year-old across state lines for a less-than-commendable excuse!

What truly leaves me sick, is that this kid be so dumb to believe him!  Is this true to most in her age group, in today's "progressive" society?  I doubt it!  Fact is, their "affair" was not made public, and she was not seen skipping into church hand in hand with this low-life!  That should have been a very telling sign to her, that NO ONE, much less God, would have approved of it! 

This is just a wanton child, whose parents did anything but parent her, it seems!  There can be no doubt that she had to have been giving clues at home, regarding the sudden "attachment" she was developing with this pedophile!

I am truly amazed that his wife "stand" by him!  He is surely not worth it!  I pray he gets the maximum sentence!  It is just, given his status in the church, at the time!

seeks minimum sentence

HAMMOND, Ind. (AP) — The former pastor of a northwestern Indiana megachurch awaiting sentencing for a sexual relationship with an underage parishioner allegedly told the girl Jesus Christ approved of their tryst.

Federal prosecutors included letters former First Baptist Church pastor Jack Schaap wrote to his victim in their sentencing memorandum filed Wednesday in federal court in Hammond.

The Post-Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/WpfYCR ) the 55-year-old Schaap wrote in the one letter to the 17-year-old girl that their relationship "is exactly what Christ desires for us."
Schaap was fired by the 15,000-member Hammond church in July and later pleaded guilty to taking a minor across state lines with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity.

He's scheduled to be sentenced Thursday morning and is seeking the minimum 10-year sentence under his conviction.

Former First Baptist Church of Hammond Pastor Jack Schaap 

Former First Baptist Church of Hammond (Ind.) pastor Jack Schaap will appear in federal court this afternoon to face charges he took an underage girl across state lines in order to have sexual relations with her. Schaap signed a plea deal Tuesday where he admitted he had sex with the girl, used his computer to entice the girl into the relationship, and that the girl was under his supervision.

Schaap will admit he had a sexual relationship with the girl between June 1 and July 30 and waived his right to have charges brought against him by a grand jury for indictment as part of the deal. He was fired by First Baptist last month after admitting to the affair, which the church’s board of deacons said was a dismissible offense under their bylaws. The girl was transported to a Cook County Forest Preserve and Michigan by church members for interludes with Schaap.

First Baptist Church of Hammond is one of the largest churches in the country, boasting a congregation of 14,000 people. Schaap is the son-in-law of First Baptist’s founder, Jack Hyles, who built the church into one of the largest in the country using a massive bus ministry that incorporated carnival antics with testimonials, targeting Chicago’s South and West sides: a program that exists to this day. In the mid-1970s Time magazine declared First Baptist as having the “world’s largest Sunday school.”

Sex scandals aren’t new to First Baptist. A 1997 lawsuit claimed a 42-year-old female church member was beaten and raped multiple times between 1991 and 1996. Schaap has often been criticized for his misogynistic and sexist approach to Christianity. He’s long spoken of a relationship with God in a sexual context, with God being the dominant male partner in the relationship, and believes in a male-dominated marriage partnership.

Hammond Baptist dismisses pastor for 'sin'

HAMMOND | The First Baptist Church of Hammond has dismissed Jack Schaap as its pastor in the wake of a Lake County police investigation.

A press release the church issued Tuesday afternoon states Schaap committed "a sin that has caused him to forfeit his right to be our pastor." A source close to the investigation said Schaap began an affair in April with a 16-year-old girl who was affiliated with the church's Hyles-Anderson College in Crown Point, though she was not a student.

Eddie Wilson, a spokesman for the church, said its deacon board, a group of more than 100 men who represent the congregation, made the dismissal decision and are cooperating with police in the matter for a behavior that he termed "physically improper."

Wilson declined to elaborate further because of the police investigation.

Sheriff John Buncich said Tuesday afternoon, his department began a criminal investigation Tuesday morning after talking with high-ranking church representatives.

The sheriff said the investigation involves the church and Hyles-Anderson College, which is operated by the church.

Buncich declined to identify the target's name or the investigation's subject matter. Schaap didn't return a call to his home for comment.

"It shakes your faith a little bit," Wilson said of the impact of Schaap's departure. "Everybody will be searching for new leadership."

This takes place 11 years after Schaap took the helm of one the largest fundamental independent Baptist congregations in the country. Its congregation, now numbering 15,000 members, elected Schaap their pastor in February 2001, a month after the late Rev. Jack Hyles died of a heart attack.

Schaap, 54, of St. John Township, is the son-in-law of Hyles, whose charismatic leadership of the church, beginning in 1959, helped grow it into a megachurch.

Schaap, born in Holland, Mich., came to Northwest Indiana in 1977 to attend, and ultimately graduate from, Hyles-Anderson College, which Hyles founded four decades ago.

The church also operates two kindergarten through 12th grade schools here.

He met and married Hyles' youngest daughter, Cindy, and served the church early in his career as an assistant youth director, bus captain and mentor to young students. He preached and taught in the college, and was vice president of it for four years before becoming pastor.

The announcement comes 19 years after the church was rocked by the conviction of a deacon, A.V. Ballenger, for fondling a 7-year-old girl in the summer of 1991 in her Sunday school class.

It is one a string of misconduct by church and church-related leaders.

The Roman Catholic Diocese of Gary removed Monsignor Don Grass as pastor of St. Mary Church in Crown Point in 2003 after discovering he molested a pre-teen girl in the 1960s while associate pastor at Holy Angels Cathedral in Gary.

More recently, the diocese was the target of lawsuits over allegations of inappropriate behavior by Richard A. Emerson who was employed as a priest here from 1978 to 2006. The suits were settled out of court and dismissed.

William A. "Andy" Beith, a former principal at Liberty Baptist Academy in Lake Station, pleaded guilty in 2002 to running away with a then 11-year-old female student with whom he was having sex.
