We arrived in Brazil in July 1958. I was 10. At the time, this young Spanish child-prodigy was a great success, doing movies in which he got to relish all with his beautiful singing voice, and it was, indeed, a treat for us kids to go view him at the theaters!
I doubt he was seen here in the USA. Pity, for throughout the rest of the world, he was known! There is a very strange phenomena that takes place here in that, foreign singers seldom make any waves here! A real shame, and this, perhaps, the reason why languages are so difficult for most Americans! In Brazil, praise God, I was exposed to music from around the world, music that has never left me, music that, thanks to the Internet, has me listening to thousands of songs, played randomly in my computer, in some 18 languages, the great majority being the ones cherished through my youth!
The irony is that the one song he sang, in one of my very favorite movies of his, that never left me, in all these decades, is not part of this playlist, thus, I have it separately right where it belongs, at the start!
I just had to abscond with this playlist which, unfortunately, does not allow for embedding! How stupid! In any instance, the link below will allow anyone to hear it just the same!
