Is Catholicism Another Gospel?

THE DIVINE CURSE!!!

Galatians 1-10 (King James Bible)

1 Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)

2 And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:

3 Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,

4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:

5 To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.

6 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.

12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:

14 And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.

15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,

16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:

17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.

18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.

19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.

20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.

21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;

22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:

23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.

24 And they glorified God in me.

Does Roman Catholicism Preach "Another" Gospel? Debate #1 Galations 1: 1-10

Larry Wessels of Christian Answers (http://www.biblequery.org/) debates Roman Catholic scholar Dr. Robert Fastiggi of Saint Edward's University located in Austin, Texas on the question of whether the Roman Catholic Church preaches the same Gospel as the Bible does or does it preach a man-made counterfeit.

The apostle Paul gave a tremendous warning and threat in Galatians 1: 6-9 concerning the importance of preaching the correct Gospel because the consequence for preaching a false Gospel is eternal damnation for the preacher and his followers. This is part 1 of a fast-paced and fiery 2 part debate (also known as the Reformation Debate).

The differences between the two debaters in this theological war could not be greater. One can then understand why Martin Luther in church history had said, "Previously I said the Pope was the Vicar of Christ. I recant.

Now I say the Pope is the adversary of Christ and the apostle of the Devil." venial, sin, veneration, of, saints, nuns, priests, Rome, Vatican, II, Council, of, Trent, unam, sanctam, seven, sacraments, mortal, sin, blessed, virgin, Mary, treasury, of, the, church, transubstantiation, indulgences, confession, purgatory, Hank, Hanegraaff, penance, limbo, lent, infallibility, genuflection, cardinals, jesuits, relics, the, mass, the eucharist.

  1. CHRIST'S TRUTHS CHANGELESS

For whosoever preaches any other but the accepted Christian faith of past centuries, by that very fact proves himself to be a false teacher, a false prophet, who as Christ says, "Comes in the garb of a shepherd, but inwardly is a ravening wolf." The true faith must be and necessarily has been believed, as St. Augustine puts it: "Semper et ubique;" i.e. always and all over - by at least the vast majority of Christians. Of that accepted Christian faith, therefore, we can say what St. Paul did of his own teachings: "Though an angel from heaven preach to you a different doctrine, let him be accursed."

Here are ten children. Give them all the same simple problem in arithmetic. Imagine that each gives you a different answer. Of these ten answers, you know that at least nine are wrong. Perhaps also the tenth. Here are 33,800 sects. Ask them all to solve the problem, "What does the Bible teach?" Each gives you a different answer. But you know that only one can really be correct. All the rest are wrong. Two and two are always four. There are a thousand wrong answers to every problem, but only one correct reply.

  2. It's fascinating to see the term "curse" applied to the Catholic Church, especially when one looks at the Christian landscape. The Catholic Church has endured persecutions from the time of Rome to the time of Stalin, governments vowing to destroy it, a revolt of heresy that portended the French Revolution, scandals too numerous to mention, most recently the scandal of homosexual priests that has cost it billions, yet no one has been able to destroy her. Contrast that with protestantism, which is a microcosm of the culture of divorce: Every denomination keeps fragmenting. The Episcopal/Anglican "communion" alone is a case study in self-implosion. But this is what happens when every individual become a self-appointed arbiter of truth.

So go ahead and return to Reverend Billy Bob's Revival Temple of Gospel Holiness and sing "This little light of mine"--just remember that no one has yet been able to snuff out the Beacon.

    Dominus Vobiscum,

  4. Oh! Mr. Archer! You never cease to post contradictory statements, beyond which I don't bother to read! You make it so very easy for me, for you do it so very early in your comment, the rest of which only merits dismissal by me!

You state: "CHRIST'S TRUTHS CHANGELESS - For whosoever preaches any other but the accepted Christian faith of past centuries,..."

That did it!! "ACCEPTED Christian faith of past centuries"?????

Accepted by whom? By a church that has NEVER been Christian, that has sought to be in the midst of turmoil and scandals, which in Peter's seat have sat MURDERERS, THE FATHERS OF COUNTLESS BASTARDS, INCESTUOUS, PEDOPHILES, etc.??

Just how can you tie these two statements, when it is that the Roman Catholic Church never ceases to come up with "new and improved" doctrines of faith?! You make absolutely no sense!

ACCEPTED BY CHRIST were the Scriptures as worded by God, which he repeated and emphasized we keep! Wording your bible is far from having maintained, has corrupted indeed; a bible for which you haven't had much use, in any instance, throughout the ages!

    Luke 11:27 (King James Bible)

And it came to pass, as he spake these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice, and said unto him, Blessed is the womb that bare thee, and the paps which thou hast sucked.

28 But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.

GEE! Who'da thunk!! The word of God is far above Mary!! Above Mary, period!

Mary whom Jesus NEVER even addressed as mother, but WOMAN!! For that is all she ever was: a sinful woman in need of a Savior, as she, herself, stated!

A word He held above His own name:
    Psalm 138:2 (King James Bible)

I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

I think it's time I re-post the doctrines as they came about from your "infallible" popes, who, not always seemed to be of one mind!

Meanwhile take a look at post "The NEW Catechism: CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH (1994)," from December 27, 2009, and gauge the contrasts it offers as compared with the Bible, the true word of God! Isn't that what the priest calls it, when at the altar? Except he doesn't have the true word of God before him at the time,... or any other time!
