Thank God it is that I believe in verifying anything if it is that I am to repeat it! I cannot accept as dogma something simply because a third party claims its veracity!
Thus, here it is, the plain truth about the religious persecution existent in England for which many left so they could practice their faith freely, a truth that, in the end, had nothing to do with the King James Bible.
Just note the vehement assertions this person makes, NONE OF IT TO BE TRUE, but, she doesn't know it! She is repeating something she has heard to be true! I am sure a lot of reputations have been marred in this manner!

For sure, don't stop reading the "good book", but do remember the origins of the King James version. It was James that ordered the Bible rewritten according to 'His' standards, if one wanted to preach in England, or face death. It is a twisted, and incomplete version. Rely instead on older versions, such as Lutherin, or Greek Orthadox, or anything prior to the King James. Check under the "Black Legion" for the reasons. James named them, because they would not follow 'His' orders, for the orders were wrong.
This is one of the reasons for people coming to the colonies and creating America, and having the seperation of Church and State, so that no one in Political Power to tell us how to believe.

Thank you for your response. I believe you are wrong regarding the type of religious persecution that did take place in England. It was the Puritans who stood aside, defiant of the Roman Catholic "traditions" still existent in the newly-established Anglican Church (Henry VIII). Pretty much the reason that raised the spectrum of the Inquisition centuries earlier, from 1200's to 1800's!
It was THIS that rose the ire of the King, who saw nothing wrong with continuing to be tolerant of the Roman Catholic practices, and wanted to have a more unified church! It had nothing to do with the King James Bible, which was commissioned by King James, in 1604, because there were complaints as to the correctness of the two existent bibles in use: the Bishop's and the Geneva.

One of the first things done by the new king was the calling of the Hampton Court Conference in January of 1604 "for the hearing, and for the determining, things pretended to be amiss in the church." Here were assembled bishops, clergymen, and professors, along with four Puritan divines, to consider the complaints of the Puritans. Although Bible revision was not on the agenda, the Puritan president of Corpus Christi College, John Reynolds, "moved his Majesty, that there might be a new translation of the Bible, because those which were allowed in the reigns of Henry the eighth, and Edward the sixth, were corrupt and not answerable to the truth of the Original."
The king rejoined that he:
"Could never yet see a Bible well translated in English; but I think that, of all, that of Geneva is the worst. I wish some special pains were taken for an uniform translation, which should be done by the best learned men in both Universities, then reviewed by the Bishops, presented to the Privy Council, lastly ratified by the Royal authority, to be read in the whole Church, and none other."
The next step was the actual selection of the men who were to perform the work. In July of 1604, James wrote to Bishop Bancroft that he had "appointed certain learned men, to the number of four and fifty, for the translating of the Bible." These men were the best biblical scholars and linguists of their day. In the preface to their completed work it is further stated that "there were many chosen, that were greater in other men's eyes than in their own, and that sought the truth rather than their own praise. Again, they came or were thought to come to the work, learned, not to learn." Other men were sought out, according to James, "so that our said intended translation may have the help and furtherance of all our principal learned men within this our kingdom."

So, as you see, it was the insidious nature of the traditions of the Roman Catholic creed that was perverting the purity of the true Bible. (HISTORY HASN'T CHANGED HERE! THE RCC STILL PERVERTS THE BIBLE!)
In any instance, the "persecution" began well before the King James Bible was commissioned, in 1604, and its first edition, in 1611, not yet fully revised for orthographical errors.
"With the exception of typographical errors and changes required by the process of orthography [spelling] in the English language, the text of our present Bible remains unchanged, and without variations from the original copy as left by the translators." (Report of the Committee on Versions to the Board of Managers of the American Bible Society, 1852, pp. 7,11 as cited by George T. Crabb)

The Authorized Version eclipsed all previous versions of the Bible. The Geneva Bible was last printed in 1644, but the notes continued to be published with the King James text. Subsequent versions of the Bible were likewise eclipsed, for the Authorized Version was the Bible until the advent of the Revised Version and ensuing modern translations. It is still accepted as such by its defenders, and recognized as so by its detractors. Alexander Geddes (d. 1802), a Roman Catholic priest, who in 1792 issued the first volume of his own translation of the Bible, accordingly paid tribute to the Bible of his time:
"The highest eulogiums have been made on the translation of James the First, both by our own writers and by foreigners. And, indeed, if accuracy, fidelity, and the strictest attention to the letter of the text, be supposed to constitute the qualities of an excellent version, this of all versions, must, in general, be accounted the most excellent. Every sentence, every work, every syllable, every letter and point, seem to have been weighed with the nicest exactitude; and expressed, either in the text, or margin, with the greatest precision."
The Mayflower left England in September 1620. The King James Bible was not yet completed with its orthographical and typographical revisions!
I find it terribly sad that History has been perverted, AGAIN, to benefit of the Roman Catholic Church. Same took place in WWII and the TRUTH behind the Holocaust!!
