The NEW Catechism: CATECHISM OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH (1994)

The Catechism of the Catholic Church (or CCC) is an official exposition of the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Pope John Paul II declared it authoritative, it to be "a sure norm for teaching the faith and thus a valid and legitimate instrument for ecclesial communion."

Thy Word IS Truth

Topic

The Basis
of Truth

Biblical Truth

The light of God's Word

The Bible only is the Standard for Truth

"...the scripture cannot be broken." John 10:35
"Sanctify them through Thy truth: The word is truth." John 17:17
"That ye might learn in us not to think...above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another." 1 Corinthians 4:6
"Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar." Proverbs 30:6

"All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." II Timothy 3:16-17
"Making the word of God of none effect through your tradition, which ye have delivered..." Mark 7:13

New Catechism
Catechism of the Catholic Church (1994)

Truth is based on Scripture, Tradition, and the Pope

"Sacred Tradition and Sacred Scripture, then, are bound closely
together and communicate one with the other."
Catechism of the Catholic Church
Para 80
"And [Holy] Tradition transmits in its entirety the Word of God
which has been entrusted to the apostles by Christ the Lord
and the Holy Spirit."
Para 81

"As a result the [Roman Catholic] Church...does not derive her certainty
about all revealed truths from the holy Scriptures alone.
Both Scripture and Tradition must be accepted
and
honored with equal sentiments of devotion and reverence." Para 82
"The Supreme Pontiff, in virtue of his office, possesses infallible teaching
authority when, as supreme pastor and teacher
of all the faithful...
he proclaims with a definitive act that a doctrine of faith or
morals is to be held as such." Para 891

Salvation
by Grace
Alone

Salvation is by Grace Alone through Faith

"Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." Romans 3:24

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."
Ephesians 2:8,9

"For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ." Romans 5:17
"Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us..." Titus 3:5-6

"I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain." Galatians 2:21

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

For Salvation, Grace becomes merely a help, and
is given through the sacraments of the Church

"Grace is the help God gives us to respond to our vocation of
becoming his adopted sons. It introduces us into the
intimacy of the Trinitarian life."
Para 2021

"The Church affirms that for believers the sacraments of the
New Covenant are necessary for salvation.
'Sacramental grace' is the grace of the Holy Spirit
,
given by Christ and proper to each sacrament."
Para 1129

"One who desires to obtain reconciliation with God
and with the Church, must confess to a priest
all the unconfessed grave sins
he remembers after
having carefully examined his conscience."
Para 1493

...................................

Faith is
God-given
and
sustained

Faith is the Gift of God and comes by the Word of God

"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house." Acts 16:31

"For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake." Philippians 1:29

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Romans 10:17

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Christ's Sacrifice continues, and is also of the Church

"In this divine sacrifice which is celebrated in the Mass,
the same Christ who offered himself once in a bloody manner
on the altar of the cross is contained and is offered
in an unbloody manner."
Para 1367

"The Eucharist is also the sacrifice of the [Roman Catholic] Church.
The Church which is the Body of Christ participates
in the offering of her Head.

With him, she herself is offered whole and entire." Para 1368

...................................

God, the
Only
All Holy
One

God is the Only All Holy One, and the Only Source of Holiness

"Holy, Holy, Holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory." Isaiah 6:3

"Who shall not fear Thee, O Lord, and glorify Thy name" For Thou only art Holy: for all nations shall come and worship before Thee..." Revelation 15:4

"There is none holy as the Lord: for there is none beside Thee: neither is there any rock like our God." 1 Samuel 2:2

"I am the LORD: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images." Isaiah 42:8

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Mary is also the All-Holy One, and the Source of Holiness

"By asking Mary to pray for us, we acknowledge ourselves to the
'Mother of Mercy,' the All Holy One." Para 2677

"From the [Roman Catholic] Church he learns the example of
holiness and recognizes its model and source in the
all-holy Virgin Mary..."
Para 2030

"The Fathers of the Eastern tradition call the Mother of God
'the All-Holy' (Panagia),
and celebrate her as
'free from any stain of sin, as though fashioned by the Holy spirit
and formed as a new creature' " Para 493

...................................

One
Mediator

In Salvation the Lord Jesus Christ Alone Mediates

"For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus." 1 Timothy 2:5

"Neither is here salvation in any other: for here is none other name [Jesus Christ' under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved." Acts 4:12

In Salvation "Mary" Also Mediates

"Taken up to heaven she did not lay aside this saving office
but by her manifold intercession continues to bring us the
gifts of eternal salvation...
Therefore the Blessed Virgin
is invoked in the [Roman Catholic] Church under the titles of
Advocate, Helper, Benefactress, and Mediatrix."
Para 969

...................................

Idolatry

God Hates Idolatry

"Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of anything... Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them." Exodus 20:4-5

"And he declared unto you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform, even Ten commandments; and he wrote them upon two tables of stone. Take ye therefore good heed unto yourselves; for ye saw no manner to similitude on the day that the LORD spake... Lest ye corrupt yourselves, and make you a graven image, the similitude of any figure..." Deuteronomy 4:13, 15-16

"Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen." 1 John 5:21

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

The Roman Catholic Church Rationalizes Idolatry

"The Christian veneration of images is not contrary to the first
commandment which proscribes idols.
Indeed, the honor
rendered to an image passes to its prototype, and whoever
venerates an image venerates the person
portrayed in it."
Para 2132

"Basing itself on the mystery of the incarnate Word, the
seventh ecumenical council at Nicaea (787)
justified... the veneration of icons -
of Christ,
but also of the Mother of God, the angels, and all the saints.
By becoming incarnate, the Son of God
introduced a new 'economy' of images."
Para 2131

Communion
with the
Dead

This Pagan Practice is Forbidden in the Bible

"I am the LORD thy God... Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Exodus 20:2-3

"There shall not be found among you any one... that useth divination, or an observer of times, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. [one who calls up the dead]."

"And the soul that turneth after such as have familiar spirits [divination: contacting the dead], and after wizards, to go a whoring after them, I will even set my face against that soul, and will cut him off from among his people. Sanctify yourselves therefore, and be ye holy: for I am the Lord your God." Leviticus 20:6-7

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Practice is Recommended by Rome

"Communion with the dead. In full consciousness of this communion
of the whole Mystical Body of Jesus Christ, the [Roman Catholic] Church
in its pilgrim members, from the earliest days of the Christian religion,
has honored with great respect the memory of the dead...
Our prayer for them is capable not only of helping them,
but also of making their intercession for us effective."
Para 958

"The witnesses who have preceded us into the kingdom, especially those
whom the [Roman Catholic] Church recognizes as saints, share in the
living tradition of prayer... Their intercession is their most exalted service...
We can and should ask them to intercede for us
and for the whole world."
Para 2683

Fifty Years in the Church of Rome, by Charles Chiniquy
http://www.biblebelievers.com/chiniquy/

I have to be honest: it is really making me physically ill to type these abominable "differences" so divergent from the Bible, adopted by the Roman Catholic Church!

Small wonder that they put obstacles when any even think to read the Bible for themselves, such as, an "interpreter" such as a priest or bishop be needed to aid in its understanding!

Jesus told us to "search the Scriptures," each and everyone of us! Jesus preached to the masses, his chosen disciples to be for the most part simple, unlearned folk!

Typing this has been a most distressing experience! I want to get on my knees and beg God forgive that we be so blind to that which he so pointedly showed us in His Love Letter to us!

  1. The purpose of this MY blog is quite self-evident!

Thus, if it is that you are presuming to make use of it to spread ANYTHING that is NOT IN THE CHRISTIAN BIBLE, you are not permitted to post!

If you do, it will be erased, as I just did a post advertising the Mormon Church, WHICH IS NOT CHRISTIAN!

    Thank you!

  2. Helga:

Since I am a Catholic, there's a probably a 50/50 chance my post will ever see the light of day on your blog, but here goes.

Much of your post seems based on some very unfortunate misunderstandings. I've noticed your tone is rather tense (responding IN ALL CAPS & EXCLAMATION POINTS!) so I hope I do not anger you,

The biggest misunderstanding is the whole concept of a "Christian Bible". The Catholic Church IS Christianity in its purest form. The Bible was compiled by the Catholic Church. The Third Council of Carthage in 397 settled the disputes of which books were valid or not. Those were Catholic Bishops that decided which books belonged in the Bible.

Do you honestly think that the early Christians were quoting the Bible to each other? It did not even exist as we know it until the above date and most members of the early Church were illiterate anyway. Books as we know them did not exist. The scriptures were written on papyrus scrolls and only the rich had libraries containing these "books". These people received the sacraments and were taught "Go...teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." "What you heard from me, keep as the pattern of sound teaching, with faith and love in Christ Jesus." What did they hear? There was no Bible yet, so it HAD to be the instruction and traditions of the Apostles ordained by Jesus.

When the early Christians converted to the faith, they did not "personally receive Jesus Christ as their savior". They received the sacrament of Baptism.

If having and venerating (not "worshipping") images of saints and their relics is wrong, why did God instruct Moses to make images of angels for the Ark of the Covenant? If I worshipped the images of saints in my house, indeed I would be a pagan (and a nut). LIkewise, asking saints for intercession is just as silly as Elisha's bones being used to cure a dead man (2 Kings 13:21) God is not the God of the dead, but the living , the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. They live with God as do the saints, our great examples to aspire to. We aren't having seances and asking saints for "information" or practicing necromancy--that WOULD be a sin. We are asking our own family members to help us by joining with our own prayers.

The Bible itself reveals the honored role of Mary ("All generations shall call me blessed") including the Angel Gabriel ("Hail FULL of grace", not "partially graced") .

I could write much more, but I fear I will exceed my allotted words. I conclude with 2 Thessalonians 2:15

"Stand firm and hold fast to the traditions that you were taught, either by an oral statement or by a letter of ours."

Or if you prefer King James:

"Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle."

    God bless you.

  3. Anyway, one point I wanted to emphasize in my post was that most people have it backward when questioning where the Church claims Her authority in the Bible. The Church does not get Her authority from the Bible, Her authority comes directly from Jesus Christ through His apostles and their successors. The Bible gets its authority from the Catholic Church.

Based on your "making me physically ill" indignation at reading and reproducing basic catechetical teaching, it seems likely that your religious experience has been largely protestant. But when churches abandon authority, everyone becomes their own supreme authority, free to interpret the Bible at their own whim, however they wish. The result? Thousands and thousands of separate denominations and every time a denomination gets angry, it breaks away and creates ANOTHER denomination--a sort of "culture of divorce" if you will. This directly contradicts Jesus' prayer that we might all be one.

    Thank you for your patience.

  4. Mr. Kumpel, read "Trail of Blood," "Foxe's Book of Martyrs, etc., to learn of the zeal with which the Scriptures and subsequent letters of the Apostles were kept, and read, WITHOUT ANY SANCTION FROM ANY POPE, in hiding! Thanks to the Church in Antioch!

These your statements tell me that you are not a well-read person, which is to be deplored!

Given that on these comments emphasis can only be given with CAPS, it is quite imbecilic of you to state that the employment of such be that I would waste my time being angered by you or any other who presumes to come here to divulge false information,... or perhaps just annoy me?! But, I must confess, you and the likes of you have provided me with a lot of mirth! You see, I love to laugh, and finding humor in most anything is not far from me!

    Proverbs 17:28 (King James Bible)

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Could it be, Mr. Kumple, that you be worse than a fool?

    Au revoir! Oh! Perhaps not!

  5. Someone made me aware of p847 of this 1994 catechism, which states that you do not need Christ to be saved. This should tell us all we need to know who is the false church

    1. Really, heartbreaking, isn't it, Fred? Please, know that you must help others find out as you have, so they can make an "educated" choice whether or not to be saved!

May the Holy Spirit ever guide you!
Thank you, so very much, for writing!

12 Now if Christ be preached that he rose from the dead, how say some among you that there is no resurrection of the dead?

13 But if there be no resurrection of the dead, then is Christ not risen:

14 And if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.

15 Yea, and we are found false witnesses of God; because we have testified of God that he raised up Christ: whom he raised not up, if so be that the dead rise not.

16 For if the dead rise not, then is not Christ raised:

      17 And if Christ be not raised, your faith is vain;
ye are yet in your sins.
1 Corinthians 15:12-17 (King James Bible)
